Experiential Learning

Art and Music

Picture
At KSA, music and the arts are essential components of the educational experience. The Gan-8th grade curriculum, which introduces the students “hands-on” to the foundations and history of art and music also integrates with our other academic studies. In art, topics like colors, geometric shapes, tessellations and fractals and optical illusions; and in music, sound, pace, waves and how they travel in different materials are taught hand in hand with our STEM curriculum.  This learning is complemented by special projects done in collaboration with our Judaic studies and Hebrew departments.

We are blessed with a jazz band and a choir that perform both in and outside of school and take an active part in our yearly Zimriyah (song festival) and school-wide play.  Learn more about Arts and Music at KSA.

Media Production Lab

One of the rooms in the Negev (lower level) has been transformed into a media production lab.  With green screen, live streaming and advanced audio and video recording capabilities, the media production lab is available to teachers and students throughout the year for projects and activities that complement and supplement their curricula. Just imagine your children creating a real weather report in front of a green screen during their weather unit (just like on TV!).

Check out KSA Today, a project of the Media Production Lab and members of our 8th grade class.

Technology at KSA

technology, chromebooks
We are proud to have a one to one Chromebook program at KSA for our middle school students. This one to one program allows for true differentiation and is a huge step toward blended learning and flipped classrooms.

In the lower grades all of our students and teachers have access to Chromebooks, SmartBoards in the classrooms and other age-appropriate technological educational tools.  Click here to learn more about Educational Technology at KSA.

Engineering Lab

KSA offers a “hands-on” shop experience to all of its students. Projects in our shop are divided into four categories:
  1. Curriculum related projects – projects that are requested by teachers from the multiple grades (science fairs, Native Americans etc).
  2. Community projects – these projects are designed for the upper school (grades 5-8), where grades 5/6 focus on the indoor surroundings and grades 7/8 on the outdoors. In these projects students design and build structures that benefit the community, such as locker organizers, indoor games and playground equipment.
  3. Projects related to holidays or school special events (including the design and building of the scenery to our play, Chaijinks, etc).
  4. Projects related to “real life” situations – how objects work at home and outside and how they can be repaired.
