Jewish Identity and Heritage

happy students in gym
At our school, being Jewish is an integral part of each child's identity and experience. We seek to inspire children to love God, develop a passion for Judaic studies and forge a personal connection with Israel.  We are dedicated to daily prayer, doing mitzvot, tikkun olam and Hebrew proficiency.

Beginning with our Kitah Gan “Israel Trip” and concluding with our Eighth grade Israel pilgrimage, our students learn to love Israel as the eternal homeland of the Jewish people, a cradle of innovation and a shining democratic light in the Middle East.

Just as we develop personal educational goals, so too, we strive to support and encourage each child to develop a personal relationship with his or her faith and Jewish identity as he or she discovers his or her place in the larger Jewish world. Our Judaic studies curriculum is developed in-house and includes Torah/Tanach, Mishna, Gemara, Codes and contemporary Responsa and Midrashim.

Hebrew

hebrew letters and language
Our Hebrew teaching stems from three Hebrew curricula, that spiral in both skills and content: Yesh Zman (Gan-2); Chaverim Beivirit (grades 3-5), and NETA (grades 6-8).

In addition to the commercial curriculum the Hebrew teaching is supplemented by a rich curriculum on the history and culture of the state of Israel.

At the heart of Kehillah Schechter Academy, both physically and spiritually, is our Beit Midrash.  Sitting at the center of the school, the Beit Midrash invites all students, parents and visitors to come in, learn, reflect, sing and celebrate.  Surrounded by sifrei kodesh, sacred books, our aron (Ark), siddurim (prayerbooks) and tables for study, students come to the beit midrash to pray and learn. Our middle school students daven in the beit midrash in the mornings and our younger students welcome Shabbat there on Friday afternoons. 7th and 8th graders have many of their Judaics classes in the beit midrash which allows for true chevruta (partnership) learning. One of the first projects of the Engineering lab for the 8th graders is creating a Prozdor (entry way) for the Beit Midrash, setting it apart from every other space in the building.
