Ways of Giving
CHECK OR CASH
Cash gifts are the most common form of giving and can be unrestricted or designated for a specific project or program. They are tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law. Checks should be made payable to: Kehillah Schechter Academy.
SECURITIES/STOCK
Securities are one of the most popular way of making a contribution and can be one of the most advantageous ways of giving. If your gift of stock is one you have owned for more than a year, you may qualify to deduct the full market value of the stock as a charitable contribution, while bypassing capital gains taxes. For additional information or to make arrangements to transfer your securities, contact Sara Goodwin at 781-769-9400 or sgoodwin@ksa-ne.org.
MATCHING GIFTS
Matching Gifts are financial donations that an employer will give to a non-profit institution by matching the gift made by an employee. The donor will receive credit for the matching gift to that will apply toward Chaijinks benefits of giving. Check with your Human Resource Department to see if your company offers this program.
PLANNED GIFTS
With a planned (also called deferred) gift, you can support Kehillah Schechter Academy in the future, often with tax advantages for you. There are a number of ways this type of giving may be arranged. For example:
BEQUEST
A written statement in a donor’s will to direct either a specific amount or a percentage of their estate is transferred to KSA at the time of their death. The donor may request that the funds either be allocated to support a specific program or wherever the school needs it most. Bequests are fully deductible from the estate and may therefore reduce estate taxes.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST
This is a means for a donor to receive income for a specific number of years or their lifetime and also support the school. It is a special tax-exempt irrevocable trust arrangement written in compliance with tax laws and regulations. The donor transfers assets such as cash, real estate, or closely held securities into a trust and receives income for life or a certain term of years. Upon their death, the remaining assets are transferred to KSA.
LIFE INSURANCE
The donation of a life insurance policy affords the donor the opportunity to make a gift with a sizable face value for a minimal outlay of cash. Donors may give an existing policy, either fully paid or partially paid, or a new policy. The proposed gift is accomplished by naming KSA as a beneficiary of the policy on the beneficiary designation form. Upon the donor’s death, KSA will receive all, or a portion of, the proceeds from the policy. The donor may be entitled to a charitable income tax deduction equal to the cash surrender value of the property and any future premiums paid.
